Where is the ice in the summer?
Ice Baths in the summer seems like a crazy idea, but if you are hooked on the cold you are drawn to it no matter what season.
I must admit that this strange pull has me looking forward to winter...and I never had that experience before. So back to the season we are in...what to do in the summer?
Bathtubs and ice cubes!
More and more people all over the world enjoy cold water and I just had the experience of emerging into a vintage zinc tub with floating ice and rubberducks! My friend Ellisiv has a wonderful garden and she even has an ice machine that produces 24 kilos of ice every day!! What a treat to be invited to join her on a warm July evening.
In June and July I stick to cold showers, because the ocean is warm ( between 18-20 celcius) and I don't like the stinging jellyfish that show up by the end of May. My ice bathing season runs from October till April normally.
The body feels different in the summer and I was surprised by how cold it felt in the tub and how much I was shaking after 6 minutes… In the winter when I go in I don't really shake much. So this was actually a new experience to me… I had to concentrate on my breathing.
I loved it! Ellisiv, the ducks and the summer vibe mixed with ice cubes and cold skin just made me very happy.
If you still haven't started taking cold showers or going in for cold dips or swims let me remind you of the health benefits of cold therapy!
